Remembering Sofia Verde Basile
Antonio VerdeLittle Sofia came to this world on July 13th, 2023, at 27weeks of gestational age and weighing only 555 grams, after a very difficult pregnancy. From the very beginning, despite her critical condition, Sofia has filled our life with love and joy.
Her strength and desire to fight for her life has been an example for everyone who was lucky enough to cross her path. Over the course of the months following her birth, Sofia’s health condition kept deteriorating, until January 2024, when she left this world in the arms of her mom and dad. Sofia was an amazing, beautiful child and has left a big hole in our lives. Her curiosity, her strength, her funny personality and her ability to express love and affection will never be forgotten. Despite the sadness and sorrow of these past months, we want to celebrate Sofia’s memory with joy and love.
Sofia has spent most of her life in the NICU, where she has received incredible care and love. Nurses, especially, have been treating her like a daughter. The professionality, humanity and compassion of the NICU staff really touched us, and we will forever be grateful to everyone who took care of Sofia and supported us in the most difficult times of our lives.
For this reason, we have decided to set up a yearly prize in the form of study travel grant for one or more nurses from the NICU department in the AMC in Amsterdam. The grant aims at supporting nurses to fund study or work-related travel, that will contribute to their professional development.
We will be forever grateful if you would want to contribute to Sofia’s legacy by donating to the “Sofia Verde Basile Study Travel Grant”. Together we can build something beautiful in Sofia’s memory and support the advancement of the premature babies’ care.
